Support in Our Café Space
Our community mental health café and pop-up spaces are now running regularly, supported by a small, dedicated team.
Recently, we’ve had a few sessions impacted by illness, which has meant cancelling at short notice. Because of that, we’re looking to build a small group of people who’d be open to stepping in when needed.
This isn’t about committing to a regular shift. It’s more about being someone we can reach out to when we’re short, and who may be available at reasonably short notice.
What this might involve
At the start, it’s about helping the space run smoothly and feel welcoming.
- Helping set up the space before the session
- Making tea and coffee
- Keeping the space tidy and comfortable
- Helping pack away at the end
There’s no expectation to support people in crisis. If the role ever grows beyond this, full training will always be provided, and you’ll only ever take on more if and when you feel ready.
You don’t need to be a professional. What matters most is being calm, kind, and respectful.
If that feels like something you’d be open to, we’d really appreciate you getting in touch.
If you’d like to get involved, you can send us a message here. We’ll come back to you as soon as we can.
You can see where we’ll be and what’s coming up just below.

Local Outreach & Flyers
Helping people find us is one of the most valuable things you can do.
- Handing out or placing flyers locally
- Popping into businesses to ask if they’ll display them
- Introducing HRE4U to cafés, shops, or venues
- Helping with design ideas
This is great for people who like being out and about, chatting to people, or helping in practical ways.
Business & Community Partnerships
We work closely with local businesses and community groups.
- Asking about raffle or tombola donations
- Talking to businesses about sponsoring a session
- Seeing if businesses can help with food or supplies
- Connecting us with people or organisations you already know
If you’re comfortable having conversations and building relationships, this kind of help makes a huge difference.
Fundraising & Events
Fundraising doesn’t have to be awkward or pushy. We focus on gentle, community-led ideas.
- Coming up with fundraising ideas
- Helping plan or run small events
- Street fundraising (once our permit is active)
- Organising your own fundraiser, gig, or event
You don’t need experience. Just ideas, enthusiasm, or a willingness to help.
Website & Quiet Behind-the-Scenes Help
Some of the most important work happens quietly in the background.
- Proofreading pages
- Spotting errors or broken links
- Suggesting small improvements
- Helping keep things clear and accessible
This is perfect for people who like calm, focused tasks.
Share Your Knowledge or Experience
We regularly invite people to our pop-ups and online spaces to share useful knowledge.
- Housing or benefits advice
- Money or budgeting support
- Lived experience insights
- Wellbeing or first aid skills
Nothing needs to be polished or professional. Just honest, helpful, human.
Practical & One-Off Help
Some people help in ways that don’t fit into neat boxes.
- Helping with set-up or pack-down
- Moving or storing supplies
- Photography or documentation (with consent)
- Translation or language support
Not Sure Where You Fit?
That’s completely okay. Most people don’t know at first.
If you have an idea, a skill, or just a feeling that you’d like to help, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need a plan. We can figure it out together.
If you're interested in getting involved, take a look at the volunteer information at the top of this page. It explains the different ways you can support HRE4U and how to get started.
