Ways to Volunteer

There are lots of ways to help HRE4U, and not every volunteer role involves providing support at our community café.

Depending on what we need at the time, opportunities can include helping at the café, fundraising and events, community outreach, collecting donated items, practical tasks and other behind-the-scenes support.

Some roles are regular, while others may only need a few hours every now and then. Each opportunity will explain what’s involved, where you’ll be volunteering and any training or requirements for the role.

Volunteering FAQs

Do I need experience to volunteer?

Not always. It depends on the role. Some opportunities may need particular skills or experience, while others are suitable for people who are completely new to volunteering. Any requirements will be clearly explained in the role description.

Do I need any training?

It depends on what you’ll be doing. Some roles need training before you can take on certain responsibilities, while others don’t. We’ll make this clear when you apply and explain any training that is needed.

Will I need a DBS check?

Some roles may require a DBS check depending on what you’ll be doing. If a DBS check is needed for the role, we’ll let you know and explain the process.

Does volunteering mean I’ll be providing mental health support?

No. Some volunteer roles involve working directly with people who use HRE4U, but plenty don’t. We also need help with practical tasks, events, fundraising, collections, outreach and work behind the scenes.

Do I have to volunteer every week?

No. Some roles involve a regular commitment, while others are occasional or can fit around your availability. The expected commitment will be explained in each opportunity.

Where will I volunteer?

That depends on the role. Some opportunities are based at our community spaces, while others may involve helping around Sefton, attending events or carrying out tasks elsewhere. The location will be included in the role description.

Will volunteering cost me anything?

We don’t want you to be out of pocket for giving us your time. We currently offer volunteers up to £6.50 towards expenses for each session they attend. Our expenses arrangements may change from time to time, and we’ll always explain what applies to your role before you get started.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

Our volunteering opportunities are currently for people aged 18 and over.

How do I apply?

Take a look at our current roles through Volunteer Centre Sefton using the link above. Choose the opportunity you’re interested in and apply through their website. We’ll then be able to take things from there.
