Our Code of Conduct
HRE4U CIC is built on kindness, clarity, and safety. Whether you are using our website, chatting with volunteers, or visiting our community café and pop-up spaces, we want this to feel like a calm and respectful environment for everyone.
This Code of Conduct explains the behaviour we expect from everyone involved. It exists to protect you, protect our volunteers, and keep the community safe.
Respect for Others
Everyone using HRE4U should feel welcome and treated with dignity. We ask all users and visitors to:
- communicate respectfully and without judgement
- avoid abusive, threatening, or discriminatory language
- avoid hate speech, harassment, or targeted comments
- be mindful that others may be vulnerable or struggling
- avoid arguments or confrontational behaviour
We may limit access to online services or ask someone to leave an in-person space if behaviour makes the environment unsafe.
Looking After Yourself and Others
HRE4U offers information, peer support and calm spaces. We are not a crisis service, therapy service, or medical service. All users and visitors agree not to:
- give medical, legal, or clinical advice to others
- encourage self harm or unsafe behaviour
- share graphic descriptions of self harm or trauma
- pressure others into sharing personal information
- present opinions as facts or make harmful claims
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call 999 or use local emergency services.
Protecting Privacy
To keep everyone safe, all users and visitors must respect personal boundaries.
- do not share someone else's private details or conversations
- do not request addresses, phone numbers, or private contact details
- do not arrange to meet volunteers or other users outside HRE4U spaces
- keep your own personal information safe
We may ask you to stop sharing personal or identifying details if it could put you or others at risk.
Respecting Volunteers and Staff
Our volunteers give their time to offer support and signposting. In person, online, and in pop-up spaces, they are not therapists, emergency responders, or medical professionals.
- treat volunteers with respect and patience
- do not ask volunteers for clinical or medical advice
- avoid sharing graphic or distressing content
- follow any boundaries they set
Volunteers may end a chat or conversation, or ask someone to leave a space, if behaviour becomes unsafe, overwhelming, or abusive.
Behaviour in the Café and Pop-Up Spaces
When attending our in-person spaces, visitors are expected to help keep the environment calm and safe.
- behave respectfully towards others
- follow simple house guidelines within the space
- avoid aggressive, threatening, or unsafe behaviour
- respect staff decisions made for safety
We reserve the right to refuse entry or ask someone to leave if behaviour puts themselves, volunteers, or other visitors at risk. This will always be done as gently and respectfully as possible.
Moderator and Staff Decisions
Moderators and staff are responsible for keeping the environment safe. Users and visitors are expected to respect their decisions, even if they disagree.
Keeping the Space Safe
To maintain a supportive environment, users and visitors must not:
- spam or flood chats
- pose as staff, clinicians, or professionals
- share harmful, misleading, or unsafe information
- attempt to hack, damage, or misuse systems or tools
Access may be restricted if these expectations are not met.
Our Responsibilities
We aim to keep HRE4U a calm, supportive and safe environment. This includes:
- removing or limiting harmful content where needed
- training volunteers to respond with care and boundaries
- following safeguarding procedures when serious risks appear
- protecting privacy in line with our policies
Consequences for Breaches
If someone abuses the space or puts others at risk, we may:
- ask them to change their behaviour
- limit or pause their access
- remove access entirely
- ask them to leave an in-person space
- follow safeguarding procedures if someone appears to be at serious risk
These actions exist to protect everyone.
